School / Academics

In a highly competitive environment, good academic scores are essential for admission to higher education, and this will be our top priority. However, as adults, we also require skills like analytical reasoning, verbal proficiency, teamwork and communications, as well as the inculcation of habits like hard work, application and perseverance, which we will strive to inculcate in our students from an early age.

Child oriented curriculum

All research points to the fact that children have an inherent capability to learn by themselves - real life proves this with a toddler learning to speak and reason from his/her immediate environment. At Sujaya, our emphasis is to expose children to a variety of inputs that will encourage them to develop a specific area of interest, be it in the sciences, arts or language.

Children learn in multiple styles -

  • Campfire: Here the teacher is the centre of learning - this is the method largely followed in India
  • Waterhole: Learning from each other (Group work will be an important area of focus at Sujaya)
  • Cave: Learning by oneself through multiple resources (Making these resources available will be a primary focus)
  • World: Learning from the world around them – the benefit of a community based school like Sujaya

At Sujaya, we will encourage students to learn with all these methods, so that they develop the necessary skills and habits along with the academic rigor required for them to get admissions into the college of their choice.

Focus on Deep Understanding and Problem Solving Skills

Our fundamental belief is that understanding of concepts is a MUST, because only once you grasp concepts fully, you can apply that knowledge and solve any type of problem. That's what matters! This is what forms the basis of our curriculum. We will go through the cycle of teach, explore, apply, test and solve, for each learning module that we develop.

Affiliation

Sujaya is affiliated to the Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE). The CBSE board is well known and aims to provide a broader and more liberal education.

Teaching Methodology

We will adopt a mix of methodologies to make the process of learning more effective and fun filled. Learning extends beyond the classroom, using a wide array of methods. These include textbooks, audio-visual material, worksheets, CD-ROMs and the internet, projects as well as educational visits and lots of hands-on experience. The school will invite experts to speak to the children on their areas of work. This will ensure that some of the 'apply' principles of our learning objectives are met.

Evaluation System

An on-going evaluation system will be followed, to give feedback on a regular basis to the child, parent, educator and school. A mix of methods, projects, activities and assignments, surprise and announced tests, will be used to evaluate students.

The evaluation system will test the abilities of the child, and not rote learning, making the questions focus less on 'lessons' done in class and more on the skills acquired from them.

Teacher Training and Exchange Program

There will be a specific focus on teacher training. We understand that the teacher is the central point of the teaching and learning process and hence we will provide a significant focus on ensuring that all our teachers have skills like IT and management, which they are not formally taught through their training programmes. We will also have an exchange programme for teachers with the Australian Education Department, to enable our teachers to go across, learn in a different environment and apply that learning in our schools. We will also have an exchange programme through which teachers and practitioners from all over the world can come and teach at the school.
